It’s the holiday season…filled with family and friends, gifts and decorations, and lots of food. With all the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to overlook our impact on our world during this special time. Here are a few tips that can significantly help us have a more sustainable holiday season.'
- Reduce your energy consumption by switching to LED holiday lights. Up to 90% more efficient, LED lights are cooler and last longer. If one light goes out, the string of lights still works.
- Recycle your tree. Check with your local waste management service about a “treecylcing” program. Usually they will pick up your undecorated, unflocked Christmas tree on your green waste collection day through mid-January. You do not need to call to schedule a pick up. Simply make sure that the tree is free of ornaments, tinsel, lights and stand. Cut the tree to approximately 5-foot lengths and place the sections curbside next to your Green Waste bin on your service day.
- Give an evergreen gift. Consider giving the gift of your time and talent as a volunteer. Honor a loved one and support a cause by making a donation in their name. Give the gift of membership to an organization that your friends and family enjoy.
