Larry Friesen
Dr. Larry Jon Friesen received his undergraduate and graduate education at UC Santa Barbara and received his Ph.D. in analytical biology with a specialization in animal communication. In 1974, he joined Santa Barbara City College and has served as Chairman of the Sciences Division and of the Biological Sciences Department. Larry is also an avid nature photographer. His photographs have graced the covers and pages of scientific journals and textbooks. He delivers his stunning wildlife photography and inspiring natural history vignettes through his daily Nature Journal: Biodiversity Notes sent to subscribers. Proceeds from the subscriptions to Biodiversity Notes are disbursed as scholarships through the Museum to undergraduate students who are pursuing natural history research. Larry has been a visitor to the Museum from childhood while on vacations to Santa Barbara and, now, as a Santa Barbara resident greatly values his many friendships and collaborations with Museum Staff developed over 65 years!
