Krista joined the Museum staff in 1994 as an assistant curator after completing her  B. A. in Biology from UC Santa Barbara.  Growing up in the High Sierras, her early exposure to nature gave her a life-long passion and curiosity about ecosystem interactions. After majoring in biology at SBCC and UCSB, fieldwork opportunities with sensitive shorebird species like the California Least Tern and the Western Snowy Plover eventually led to a graduate degree in Behavioral Ecology from UCSB’s Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology.

As collection manager of the ornithology and fish collections, Krista prepares and curates specimens and tissues used in research projects all over the world. Some recent projects at the museum include the digitization and geo-referencing project of all the department collections, collaborative data-sharing projects such as OrNIS and VertNET, and the re-design of the Dennis M. Power Hall of Birds. As an adjunct professor at SBCC, Krista also enjoys teaching field classes in ornithology.
