This is a call to all of you that have been in the field with Gordon,
went on a field trip with him, took a class with him, or were simply inspired
by his work. Come and celebrate this event with us. We have an impressive
event scheduled with the presenting of the Dibblee Medal, A talk by Gordon
on his years of mapping, and some toasting and roasting of this great
mans 40 years of life in the field.
As most of you are aware the Dibblee Foundation is in the process of publishing
the geologic maps of the 500 quadrangles that Tom mapped. The soon to
be released Mount San Antonio Quadrangle will become the R. Gordon Gastil
Honorary Map. What many of you may not know is that the Dibblee Foundation
is merging with the Santa Barbara Museum of National History and that
we will publish 27 maps this year including all of the San Gabriel Mountains.
We are presenting you with a three fold opportunity to 1) honor Gordon
for his field mapping and contribution to your development, 2) to help
the distribution of field maps of California and 3) to be personally recognized
for your contribution on the map and at the presentation ceremony. Personal
contributors of $500 and corporate contributors of $1000 will be acknowledged
on the printed map. A list of all contributors will be artfully presented
to Gordon at the meeting. We are holding the printing of the map until
the end of June. We will appreciate your contribution or pledge by that
