Star Parties

Every month, the Museum offers public observations at the Museum's Palmer Observatory. These Star Parties are hosted by members of the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit, who provide telescopes and their expert knowledge of the night sky.

Next Star Parties:
Saturdays, March 14 and April 4
7:00-10:00 PM

Spring night skies always have something for everyone. During the Spring you will be able to follow Hercules on some of the adventures that made him famous such as his battles with Hydra, Leo and the crab. We will be saying farewell to Orion and his two bright stars Rigel and Betelgeuse but his two hunting dogs, Canis Major and Canis Minor will still be visible and we will have a better view of Messier object number 101, the Whirlpool Galaxy! In addition, we’ll be viewing double stars, galaxies and more. We'll also provide hands-on demonstrations, make-and-take crafts, and astronomy experts to answer your questions. And don't miss our Evening Exclusives in the planetarium that night!

Admission: Members FREE; non-members $2.00/adult, $1.00/child
