Our new exhibit at the Ty Warner Sea Center, SHARKS…bite size, showcases some of the smaller sharks found in the Santa Barbara Channel like swell sharks, horn sharks, thornback rays, and other related species
A highlight of this exhibit will be a brand new shark touch tank. Sea Center educators will guide visitors as they come face-to-face with harmless denizens of the deep. The exhibit will also explore sharks' reproductive processes and their struggle for survival, plus human impacts on sharks, the ocean, and our planet.
So be sure to visit the Ty Warner Sea Center and get more than a bite-sized experience!

What Are The Odds?
Thanks to the movie Jaws, many people live in fear of being attacked by a shark. But in 2005, sharks were responsible for the deaths of only four humans worldwide. In that same year, humans killed more than 275,000 sharks every day.
What is the chance in your lifetime of dying of a shark attack? You will be relieved to know that they are remote. Compare the probability if you are exposed to:
Auto Accident 1 in 88
Bicycle Accident 1 in 6,700
Lightning Strike 1 in 39,000
Airliner Crash 1 in 40,000
Bee Sting 1 in 80,000
Dog Bite 1 in 240,000
Shark Attack 1 in 3,700,000
