Sea Center Volunteer Program

All volunteers begin their time as Exhibit Interpreters working alongside staff on the Sea Center floor educating visitors about local marine animals and hands on ocean science based activities. New volunteers will shadow other experienced volunteers and/or staff until they feel comfortable interpreting at a station on their own. Once volunteers have completed the 4-month minimum requirement as an Exhibit Interpreter they are welcome to apply for other advanced positions at the Sea Center.

Aquarist Assistant	TUES & THURS 9:00–1:00 PM 1:00–5:00 PM	- Help maintain tanks, care for animals and educate the public about local marine species - Training required	Interview with Volunteer Manager & Aquarist Train with Aquarist	1 x 4hr shift / week Min 3 month commitment
Shark Interpreter	SUNDAYS 1:00–5:00 PM	- Interact & educate the public about shark conservation - Become a certified shark handler - Give presentations about shark conservation & feeding demonstrations	Interview with Volunteer Manager & Aquarist Train with Aquarist	1 x 4hr shift / week Sunday’s required Min 3 month commitment
Nature Adventures	SUMMER/ WINTER/SPRING MON–FRI	- Assist Programs Manager with nature based education camps during school breaks	Interview with Programs Manager	As needed School Breaks
Outreach	WEEKENDS See Calendar	- Assist with outreach public ed programs, including Discovery Zone, Oceanology & science outdoor activities	Interview with Programs Manager	Weekends Kayaking experience a plus
Office Support	TUES & THURS 1:00–3:00 PM	- Assist administration with general office duties, advertising & marketing	Interview with Programs Manager	As needed On-going
