Adult & Family Programs Manager

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the natural world!

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is seeking enthusiastic and talented candidates for the position of Adult and Family Programs Manager. The Adult and Family Programs Manager will develop, implement, evaluate and promote a diverse roster of education programs such as classes, field trips, lectures, and festivals for community members of all ages, particularly adults and families, at both the Mission Creek campus and the Sea Center. Excellent candidates will have proven ability in program development and implementation, committee building and management, and the creativity involved in designing and running innovative, successful public programs. The position requires experience working with children and adults in an informal educational setting, and a background in natural history or science. Summer Camp Instructor

We are seeking experienced individual(s) to instruct children's educational science programs during summer break. Instructors work as part of an education team to successfully support children in an exciting learning environment of natural history camps. Qualified candidates will have experience in leading, teaching, and assisting informal educational programs.

Full-time and part-time temporary positions are available at both the Mission Creek campus of the Museum and the Ty Warner Sea Center. Camps run from June 23 through August 22. Salary range is $10 to $15/hour depending upon experience.

Project Coordinator

Assist the Museum's Director of Facilities and Executive Director in coordinating activities related to our Master Planning process. Coordinate communications between Museum management, Master Planning Committee, architects, engineers, city planners, and other consultants and participants. Assist with prepartion of documents and keep organized files. Help develop and monitor timelines and schedules.

This part-time, temporary position reports to the Director of Facilities and requires strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent analytical and problem solving skills. It also requires MS Office and MS Project skills and prior success in project coordination. Desirable background/knowledge: architecture, construction, planning AutoCAD, facilities management experience or intereset.

Part Time Sea Center Interpreter

The Interpreter will oversee the day to day operations of exhibit areas of the Sea Center, including ensuring adequate exhibit staffing, monitoring exhibits, assisting with volunteer supervision, ensuring quality customer service, ensuring cleanliness standards, and monitoring safety issues. The Interpreter serves on the floor and interacts with the visitors, in addition to running and developing programs.

This is the perfect job for a person with some marine science background who loves working with the public.

Sea Center Operations Manager

Our Sea Center Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility, including admission, maintenance, rental, and retail functions. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated experience in managing a multi-dimensional business or non-profit organization.

Some of the responsibilities include:
Establishing a culture of excellent customer service.
Preparing and managing the departmental budget.
Hiring and supervising visitor services and maintenance staff.
Overseeing building maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, etc.
Working with staff to develop, execute and evaluate Sea Center exhibits.

Excellent communication skills are required, both written and verbal. Must be well organized and good at detail and follow through. Experience with coordinating and planning events. Background in Marine Science a plus; bilingual a plus.

Visitor Services-Sea Center

We are looking for a friendly, out going, multi-tasker to work in the busy admissions office at our Ty Warner Sea Center on Stearns Wharf.

Duties include: selling admission tickets, memberships, event tickets, answering and directing phone calls, and general Museum and Santa Barbara information.

Part time - must be willing to work variable hours. Must enjoy interacting with the public and be dependable and punctual. Marine background or interest helpful!

Visitor Services-Mission Creek campus

We are seeking enthusiastic, well-organized and congenial part-time people to work in our fast-paced admissions office, as well as the Museum's retail store. Specific duties and responsibilities include answering the phone, greeting visitors, opening and distributing the mail, processing cash receipts, store sales and providing administrative support to all departments. The environment is positive and this is a fun job for the individual with superior communication skills and the ability to multi task.

3-4 days/wk; 20-30 hrs/wk; may include weekend and holiday hours.
