Beyond the Exhibits: Secrets of the Museum Collections

Join us for one of Santa Barbara’s most exclusive scientific and cultural experiences! Let our curators take you behind the scenes for an exclusive peek into the zoological collections of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Come see giant squid and nautilus, mountain lions and bats, hummingbirds and the Museum's world famous egg collection.

Learn how the specimens were acquired, how they are prepared and housed, and how they contribute to the fascinating science of natural history.

Tickets are required in advance. $35 non-members, $30 members includes curator led behind the scenes tour in addition to general museum admission.

Tours are recommended for guests 10 years old and up. Guests under 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. This experience is limited to 10 guests per tour.

Exclusive group tours for 8 or more people can be arranged on request – ideal for corporate team-building events, clubs, social groups and community groups. Conditions apply.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Please note:

Tours run on schedule. Please arrive 15 minutes prior the start of your tour to allow the tour to start promptly. Tours will last for approximately 1 hour.

Certain collection areas contain naphthalene and ethanol, chemicals used in preserving specimens. People with extreme sensitivity to fumes may find this experience unpleasant.

For security and conservation reasons, you may not take large bags, food or drink on the tour.
