Cocktails with a Curator: Saving the White Abalone

At the Museum and Sea Center

October 10, 2019 / 5:30 PM–7:30 PM

This event has sold out.

Following years of sharp decline in numbers caused by overharvesting, the White Abalone was the first marine invertebrate listed as endangered in the United States.

For more than a decade, the Sea Center has been part of a collaborative effort to reproduce the marine snail in captivity with the goal of increasing their numbers in the wild.

Learn first-hand how White Abalone are bred in captivity, what role the Sea Center plays in the White Abalone Restoration Consortium, and how SBMNH scientists and collections have contributed to the biological and anthropological knowledge on abalone.

Enjoy delicious seafood appetizers from Bluewater Grill, Uncorked, and chef Pete Clements. Wine provided by Buttonwood Farm Winery & Vineyard. Enjoy coastal-themed cocktails by Cutler’s Artisan Spirits. Create your own beautiful take-home craft.
