Curator Response

Hi Kevin,

This is a ladybug larva. Like adult ladybugs, also referred to as ladybird beetles, they are voracious predators of small, plant-feeding insects such as aphids and mealybugs. This larva looks to be fully grown, and will likely make a pupa in the next couple of days. Then, a week or two later, the adult ladybug should emerge!

Sincerely,

Schlinger Chair of Entomology Alex Harman, Ph.D.
