Science Pub: Beauty, Value, and Art in Nature

At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street

July 11, 2022 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

All human art has been inspired by nature's shapes and colors. Minerals and crystals shape and are shaped by human culture and art. For thousands of years, we have saved so little of that natural beauty used to create our jewelry, art, and material wealth.

The Museum’s Rare Earth summer exhibit features beautiful fine minerals and crystals from the world-renowned Arkenstone Collection of Robert Lavinsky, Ph.D. Join us for our first Science Pub back in person as Dr. Lavinsky discusses the real—and perhaps surprising—value of these natural treasures, not only in the realm of science, but for their beauty and value as precious objects in their own right.

Join our fun and friendly conversation and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature in this ongoing series of free science talks held on the second Monday of every month. No tickets or reservations required, but be sure to get to Dargan’s (18 E. Ortega St. in downtown Santa Barbara) early to secure a seat and order your favorite food and drink.
