Revisiting Island of the Blue Dolphins

Welcome to this revisitation of Scott O'Dell's Island of the Blue Dolphins from a variety of critical perspectives that illuminate the story of the historical figure who has been called the Lone Woman of San Nicolas. The event begins at 5:00 PM at the main gate of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. From 5:00–6:00 PM selected exhibits of relevance will be open, while light refreshments will be served outdoors by the creek. At 6:00 PM a special program will begin in Fleischmann Auditorium, featuring a performance of the Lone Woman's Toki-Toki song by Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, a screening of relevant portions of the documentary "West of the West," and a panel of experts representing a variety of perspectives: Kristina Foss, John Johnson, Susan Morris, Sara Schwebel, James Yee, and Ernestine Ygnacio-De Soto. The event will be moderated by Sara Pankenier Weld. The event will conclude at 7:00 PM.
