Estate Planning Essentials Workshop

At The Museum | Fleischmann Auditorium

November 15, 2026 / 2:00 PM–4:00 PM

Get your affairs in order—and know you have a plan.

What would happen if you could no longer make your own financial or healthcare decisions? Who would step in? And if you were to die unexpectedly, would your assets go to the people and causes you care about—or would your family have to figure it out without you?

Estate planning isn’t just about what happens after you die. It’s about making thoughtful decisions now so the people you love know what to do if the unexpected happens.

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s Planned Giving Advisory Council invites you to a free, two-hour, in-person public workshop covering the essential elements of estate and legacy planning. Our experienced presenters will explain these topics in straightforward, practical terms, including:

  • Wills and trusts
  • Durable powers of attorney for financial decisions
  • Healthcare directives and advance care planning
  • Different types of fiduciaries and the roles they play
  • Capacity and decision-making issues
  • Tax considerations
  • Legacy planning and charitable giving

Whether you are starting from scratch, have an estate plan that needs updating, or simply want to better understand your options, you’ll leave with information you can use and questions to discuss with your own professional advisors.

The formal program concludes at 4:00 PM. Attendees are invited to stay until 5:00 PM for an informal meet-and-greet with the presenters and other estate planning professionals.

Please RSVP through this online form.
