Science Pub: Galactic Archaeology

At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street

December 12, 2022 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

What was the first generation of stars in the universe like? As archaeologists would uncover clues in ruins to learn about life in an ancient settlement, astrophysicists analyze the spectra of some of the oldest stars in our galaxy to piece together what their environments were like. SBMNH Lead Astronomy Programs Presenter Rafael Cottom will take you on a voyage through time and space as he recounts his research on this topic as an intern at Carnegie Observatories. Come for the amazing imagery; stay for the data, methods, and results!

Join our fun and friendly conversation and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature in this ongoing series of free science talks held on the second Monday of every month. No tickets or reservations required, but be sure to get to Dargan’s (18 E. Ortega St. in downtown Santa Barbara) early to secure a seat and order your favorite food and drink.
