At Santa Barbara Central Library

March 27, 2024 / 7:30 PM–9:00 PM

Please note the new location for this event: Santa Barbara Central Library, Faulkner Gallery

Presented by the Santa Barbara Audubon Society

You are invited to a Santa Barbara Audubon first: A night of bird fiction! Join us for a free evening of short stories about birders and the birds that fuel their passion, from the creative mind of Santa Barbara’s favorite bird columnist, Hugh Ranson. Hugh’s recent work focuses on finding new ways to write about the lives of birders, their relationships with one another, and the creatures that send them out into the field on those wild chases.

Hugh Ranson was born in England and lived in Wales before coming to California in 1981. He became a birder at the age of 12, and since retiring from his 32-year career as an elementary school teacher, gets out in the field every day to look for and photograph birds and bugs. He has had several short stories published and has written two novels for young adults. Hugh currently writes "Santa Barbara Birding," a monthly bird article for the Santa Barbara Independent.
