Science Pub: Ancient Maritime Crossings

At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street

February 13, 2023 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

How did the Indigenous coastal peoples of Scandinavia and the British Isles reach the islands and peninsulas of Atlantic Europe? Key investigators from a cross-disciplinary international research team will present archaeological and ethnographic case studies from prehistoric Europe and North America, focusing on boat building, rock art, metals, social organization, and long-distance exchange. Department of Historical Studies Professor Johan Ling, Ph.D., and Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities Cecilia Lindhé, Ph.D., are making the Atlantic crossing from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden to present this exciting topic.

Join our fun and friendly conversation and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature in this ongoing series of free science talks held on the second Monday of every month.
